My kids love to read. Our nightly routine is to get ready for bed, then each of them pick out a book they want to read. We then flip a coin to see who gets their story read first, alternating nights as to who gets to call the toss. The winner gets theirs read first and the loser gets to pick which room we read in and first choice of spot in which to listen.
We almost always end up in MommyDaddy bed (yes, it’s one word) with the two of them on either side of me reading books. We have a lot of books in the house on a wide variety of subjects, but one of my favorites is this little gem of a book.
I grew up in the south, and living up here in yankee land I miss a lot of the things I grew up with. This book brings a little bit of home for me to show my children. They also think it’s hilarious when I drop into a southern accent reading this book. They laugh and laugh, accompanied by my wife’s audible eye rolls. It’s a typical child’s ABC book where each letter is accompanied by a word and a short story or explanation.
One of our favorite pages is N for Nanner Puddin’. I went on a work trip recently and dropped my daughter off with my parents to spend a few days with them. While we were there, my mom made a nanner puddin and my daughter tried some. Her face was hilarious as her eyes went wide and she let out a loud ‘YUM!' Now we talk all the time about how Grandma makes yummy nanner puddin’ (hi Grandma!).
I really enjoy this book, even more than the dinosaur books we’ve read 18,403 times. And the enjoyment my kids get out of it just makes me happy. If you have little ones, this is a worthy pickup. You can find this book at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.
If you have kids, what are some of your favorite books to read with them? What do they love? What makes them laugh? Let me know in the comments.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next time!
