I’m not normally a fan of police procedurals, but I am a huge fan of Larry Corriea. A little while ago I had to make a couple of long drives by myself and wanted an audiobook to listen to, so I picked up Lost Planet Homicide. Larry has stated many times his love for cop shows, and as far as I’m concerned he’s knocked it out of the park with Lost Planet Homicide and the sequel, Ghosts of Zenith.
Lost Planet Homicide is a SciFi audiobook series set on a planet named Croatoan. The human colonists had originally set out to settle a garden paradise, but through an unfortunate accident their colony ship had mis-jumped into deep space where the only nearby planet was the hostile, unforgiving Croatoan.
The only suitable place to settle were five mountain peaks towering above acid clouds blanketing the planet’s surface. These peaks became the city of Five Points, and there’s no greater hive of scum and villainy this side of Mos Eisley.
The story follows Detective Lutero Cade, the last honest cop in Five Points, as he investigates a rather peculiar murder.
Cade is a fascinating character. He’s just a normal guy wanting to do the right thing in a place where no one else seems to care about right and wrong. But he does it anyway, at least as best he can.
What he finds in his investigation changes the accepted history of Croatoan. But what will that mean for Cade? And for Five Points?
You’ll just have to listen for yourself. And when you’re done with Lost Planet Homicide, go ahead and do yourself a favor and pick up Ghosts of Zenith. I promise you won’t regret it!
